Another Week Down

It is early on Saturday morning, mid way through my time here in Halifax, as I sit here and type this.  This past week was a short week for classes with the Canada Day holiday, but very heavy on the work. We basically had to days to read numerous chapters in our texts and prepare two separate assignments both due on Friday. By the end of this coming week this course will be done and that will be two down for this year. Looking at the syllabus this coming week seems to have the work spread out a bit more evenly, which might make the week less stressful and a bit more manageable. My current course is Pastoral Foundations and it is very interesting. The instructor for last week was the Dean of Academics here at the school and is also a licensed psychotherapist. Needless to say we did a lot of work on how one’s past affects how they behave in the present and how this can affect not only their personal interactions but their interactions in a larger community such as a church. It was rather interesting at times.

As I sit here typing this, I can hear the wind outside my window. We are awaiting the arrival of hurricane/post tropical storm Arthur. The storm is not expected to make landfall in south western Nova Scotia for another hour or so, but the winds are already gusting around 80km/hour. The track shows the storm crossing Nova Scotia west of Halifax, but we are expecting winds around 100km/hour here in Halifax today. What I find interesting is that although they take their storms seriously today, there has been no emergency preparedness for those of us who have never been through a storm like this and so we are just taking it as it comes. Needless to say there is not going to be a whole lot happening in residence today.

I find it hard to believe that today we are officially half-way completed the summer term. It was 3 weeks ago that I flew out of Winnipeg on my way to Halifax and 3 weeks from today I will be flying back to Winnipeg. This time had gone by so quickly, but I suppose that is to be expected when we are busy, or as they say time sure flies when you are having fun. Although I suppose the definition of fun is purely subjective.

I will let you all know who we survived the storm in a few day.

Peace,

Patrick
