Faith in Action – February 18, 2025

Next StepsThank you to everyone who attended the special Congregational Meeting on Feb. 9.  Special thanks to Doug for running the meeting, Sue for taking the minutes and Catherine and Marlaine for sharing their time and proof-reading skills.  Thank you as well to all those who brought in goodies and made sure we had coffee! Our documents were submitted on time and we have been approved to strike the committee as stated to search for a student minister.

Save the Date – Annual Meeting!  Our annual meeting will be taking place on Sunday, March 30 at noon.  Please bring your questions and suggestions as we move forward with the life and work of Windsor Park United Church.
If you need to submit a report for the Annual Report, please do so by Friday, Feb. 28.

Worship – Thank you to everyone who joined us for worship during the month of February. Special thanks to those in pulpit supply this month: Rev. Teresa Moysey, Rita Swan and Rev. Lynda Trono as well as our liturgists Alana Davis, Dorothy Read, Edna Erickson, and Nancy Sulkers as well as Jan Nazarko, who presided over communion.

QR codes in Worship? – You may have noticed there QR codes in the worship power point.  The one on the announcement page takes you directly to the church website, where you can find the Bulletin, Notes on the Notes, etc. The ones on the Invitation to Share slide and end slide take you directly to our Canada Helps page and make it easier for guests and on-line viewers to donate. To use a QR code just aim your phone camera at the square. Make sure the QR code is in the yellow square and click on the yellow link that appears.

Emergency Food Cupboard – Our food cupboard is having more visitors than usual and there is a need for the following items: powdered milk, peanut butter, broth soups, instant coffee, crackers, cereal, pasta, pasta sauces, items that children can take to school for snacks, juice boxes, canned tuna, beans, muffin mixes, canned fruits and vegetables, cat and dog food.
And don’t forget – Edna challenged each of us to donate one food item this week!

Hearing Assists – Did you know that we have devices to amplify the Sunday service available to borrow from the office?  If this is something you might want to try, please call the church office during the week and we will have one reserved for you for Sunday morning!

Folding Rollator Walker with Seat, 4-Wheels and Convenient Storage Bag, Adjustable Handle Height, Supports up to 300 lbsMobility Aid Lending – Did you know that WPUC has wheelchairs, walkers and canes that can be borrowed by congregation members? Pastoral Care Group – If you are aware of anyone from our church community who might benefit from Pastoral Care support, you can speak with Sue Turley (office@windsorparkunitedchurch.com or 204-256-8792) to share discreetly.  If you have some time in your schedule to connect with a shut-in or hospitalized individual from our church community by phone or in person, please reach out to Pat Lumsden (lumsdenpa@mymts.net or 204-254-6301) for more information.

Inventory Crew – Thank you to Alana, Gwen, Margo and Laura who have been busy sorting, organizing and taking inventory on the main floor!

Kitchen Cleaners – Thank you to U.C.W. Unit 2 members who came out to organize, sort and tidy the downstairs kitchen.

Building and Grounds Crew – Thank you to Howard, John and Bruce, who have been busy getting the basement rental ready.  The former Gardening room now has some amazing re-purposed shelving to help us stay organized!

Offering counters – Thank you to those who continue to answer this call! We could really use a few more people to help in this area. If you are new to the job, training after church is available and the counting is always done with a partner.  Reminder to sign-up for the weeks you would like to count by the office.

Greeters  & Liturgists – Thank you to everyone who has welcomed people to church on Sunday mornings in the role of greeter and to those who are on our list of liturgists to help lead worship and work with the pulpit supply on Sunday morning! Thank you as well to those who welcome the children in attendance and help them find our activity packets.

Join the Worship Choir for Lent/Easter

The Worship Choir will be practicing the music for Lent (including Palm Sunday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday) starting on Thursday, March 6 from 7:45-9:15 p.m.  Now is a great time to add your voice – all welcome!

Hymn Books – We have a number of Voices United and More Voices hymn books that we are looking to rehome.  If you know of an organization or residence that could use these, please speak with Laura or Sue (make sure to get the OK from the receiving end first!)  If you would like a hymn book for your own use at home, check out the next book sale (upcoming date T.B.A)!

Pew Cushions – As we find that we no longer have a need for so many pew cushions, we are hoping to find them a new life after their many years of faithful service at WPUC.  Perfect for everything from cold bleachers (hockey arenas/next year’s Grey Cup?) to extra support in lawn chairs, this may be a great item that you didn’t even know you needed!  Check them out at the next book sale or speak to Laura or Alana to get your cushions by donation!
