Faith in Action – October 16, 2024
Building community:
Thursday Morning Study Group – The Thursday Morning Study group will start meeting this Thursday (October 17) at 9:30 a.m. As this is the first meeting of the fall, you are invited to bring your ideas for study, your enthusiasm and your smiling self! There might even be a cup of coffee waiting for you. A warm welcome is waiting for you!
Southwinds – A fall edition of the Southwinds is going to be published soon and we need your submissions! Use your imagination – send us pictures of things you have been doing, have you written anything you would like to share, have you seen a movie or read a book that you would like to tell us about, do you have a particular Halloween costume that you have enjoyed wearing? Church news updates are welcome as well! Please send your submissions via email to office@windsorparkunitedchurch.com. The deadline for submissions has been extended to Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m.
Book Sale – Our next book sale will be on Sunday, October 27 (postponed from Oct. 20), before and after worship. Payment is by donation, so bring your spare change and come early to browse!
Taking Care of Each Other – It’s that time of year again! We ask that you do not come to the church if you are feeling under the weather. All of our worship services can be viewed under the Worship tab above, or by visiting our YouTube channel! *Also, COVID and flu vaccines are now available at your nearby pharmacy!
WPUC Pictorial Directory – The church directory has always been a great way for the WPUC family to get to know each other. Forget a name – look in the directory! Know the name, but not the face – look in the directory! It’s also a valuable tool for anyone new coming into the church (like a new minister!).
Call the office to make an appointment for your photo to be taken – dates are Oct. 27, Nov. 3 and Nov. 10 with more dates as needed. You can also book your time after church on Oct. 27.
Homecoming Sunday – Homecoming Sunday is on October 27. This date is close to the anniversary date of Windsor Park United Church and we especially invite those who haven’t been to a service for a while to come to worship. Check out the updated Sanctuary, and Re-connect!
Sing with the Worship Choir – It’s a great time to join the Worship Choir! Practices are on Thursdays from 7:45-9:15 p.m. If you enjoy the music in worship and like to sing, please consider adding your voice to our choir – we’d love to sing with you!
Harmony Singers – If you know of a teen or young adult who would be interested in singing with the Harmony Singers, please speak to Laura!
Livestream Team – We are looking for another 2-3 people to add to our livestream team. Interested people will learn how to use the technology to stream the worship service on Sunday mornings. All training/support will be provided! Each Sunday we livestream the service, which is then posted on our YouTube channel. This is an important outreach of our church as the service recording usually has 40+ weekly views. Please contact the church office or Doug Waldron if you are interested in helping bring our service to those who can’t attend in person on Sunday mornings.
Greeters – If you would like to be one of our friendly greeters on Sunday mornings, please speak to Alana Davis or call the church office. Your friendly smile is the first thing people see as they come in the door and your welcome makes a big difference to new-comers, returning folk and regular members!
Offering Counters – As we move through the fall season, we are in need of a healthy complement of offering counters. This work involves staying after church on Sunday to tally the givings from the offering plates. All training is provided. Offering counters work in pairs and sign up for the weeks that are convenient for their schedules. Add your name to the sign-up sheet or leave a message at the church office if you are interested in helping out!
Cleaning House – As we move through this time of transition, there has been a lot of behind-the-scenes tidying going on! Currently, we have a ping pong table that we would like to find a new home for. The table comes with 4 paddles and net. If you know of anyone who could use it, please call the church office. For a donation, this can be yours!
Coffee makers and clean-up crews – Sign up sheets for after-church coffee are up near the office. Please sign up at least a week in advance. Even if you aren’t officially “on coffee,” you are welcome to bring goodies to share, or help with the clean up!
Pastoral Care Group – If you are aware of anyone from our church community who might benefit from Pastoral Care support, you can speak with Sue Turley (office@windsorparkunitedchurch.com or 204-256-8792) to share discreetly. If you have some time in your schedule to connect with a shut-in or hospitalized individual from our church community by phone or in person, please reach out to Pat Lumsden (lumsdenpa@mymts.net or 204- 254-6301) for more information.
Remembrance Day Sunday service – This year, as part of our Remembrance service on November 10, we will be having a slide show of people who served in the military who are connected to the people of Windsor Park United Church. Sort through some of your old photos and share your story (please note that the photo does not have to be a “wartime” photo, but can also be a photo of the person in their later years!) If you find a photo to include in the slide show, please send it to laura.wpuc@gmail.com with a description of the person, their role, how they are related to you and anything else you’d like to share with us! To allow time for the slideshow to be made, the deadline to submit photos is Monday, November 4. Thank you to those who have already submitted photos!
*You will also have the opportunity to share artifacts in a display on Sunday, November 10. Please bring your items to the church on Thursday, November 7 during office hours or on Sunday, November 10 before 10 a.m.
Save the dates!
Craft Sale – The Craft Sale will be on Saturday, November 30
Cookie Walk – The Cookie Walk will be on Saturday, December 7

Beyond Our Walls…
Emergency Food Cupboard – Windsor Park United Church’s Emergency Food Cupboard is in need. We have had a number of visitors to our cupboard and more are needing every day. Items needed include peanut butter, instant coffee, crackers, cereal, pasta, pasta sauces, items that children can take to school for snacks, juice boxes, tuna, beans, muffin mixes, canned fruits and vegetables. Cat and dog food are also appreciated as some using our services have four-footed family members. You are welcome to drop off donations during office hours or on Sunday mornings.
Support for West Broadway Community Ministry
“THANK YOU” for your ongoing support in bringing in cookies for WBCM! If you are donating cookies, please label the package “FOR WEST BROADWAY” and bring your donation to the church during office hours. This month’s cookie deadline is October 21. Homemade cookies are always a hit and any help you can provide is greatly appreciated!
October Food Collection – In support of World Food Day, we will be collecting non-perishable food items during the month of October. Items most needed are canned meat/fish, peanut butter, and Cheez whiz, but other non-perishables will also be gratefully accepted.
