KAREN HUNNIE (nee GORETZKI) January 8, 1943 - January 10, 2008 Peacefully after a brief but courageous battle with cancer it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Karen at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 65 years. Remaining to forever cherish Karen's memory are her loving husband of 45 years Don; children, Connie (Mark), Sheri (Dave) and her two precious grandchildren, Carson and Jacob as well as her stepmother Helen; sister Renate (Herb); brothers, Manfred (Doreen) and Hans (Tannis); special cousin Margaret; Aunt Kaethe and numerous in-laws, relatives, nieces, nephews and friends throughout the world. She was predeceased by her mother, father, and Uncle Heinz. Karen was born January 8, 1943 in Wesermunde, Germany. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1952 and resided in Winnipeg where she met and fell in love with Don. They were married on May 5, 1962. Karen worked at Freed Freed, Pizza Place, and Pharmasave from where she retired. She enjoyed volunteering at Island Lakes Community School where Carson attends. In her spare time, Karen enjoyed reading, knitting, gardening, socializing and watching Carson's hockey games. Karen could often be seen walking in her neighbourhood or driving her yellow beetle. One of her greatest accomplishments was finishing the Manitoba half marathon at the age of 61 years. Karen and Don enjoyed travelling to many destinations throughout Canada and the world including the USA, Mexico, Asia, Australia, Europe and numerous Caribbean Cruises. In lieu of flowers donations in Karen's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3E 0V9. I'M FREE Don't grieve for me, for I'm free I'm following the path God laid for me I took His hand when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all I could not stay another day To laugh, or love or work or play My life's been full, I savoured much Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch Perhaps my time seemed all too brief Don't lengthen it now with undue grief Lift up your heart and share with me God wanted me now. He set me free. WE LOVE YOU
